The Challenge

Bank OZK aimed to transform its workplace at 23Springs in Uptown Dallas into a space that celebrates the organization’s legacy while fostering growth, innovation and collaboration. At Bank OZK, progress has always been built on careful decisions, deep knowledge and an unwavering commitment to getting it right. The challenge was to design a workplace that supports operational excellence while opening the door to a future defined by agility, innovation and sustained success in the competitive Dallas market.

The Design Solution

HKS led the architectural and interior design of Bank OZK’s 23Springs workplace with a singular ambition: to create an environment that reflects the precision-driven culture of the organization while providing the flexibility and momentum needed for its future. Throughout the project, HKS applied a clear conceptual narrative, “Where the River Meets the Road,” to guide the design. This idea bridges the bank’s deep institutional knowledge and experience (the steady, enduring “river”) with its forward-looking ambition and readiness for growth (the “road ahead”). 

The workplace unfolds as a dynamic continuum of experiences rather than a collection of static rooms. Spaces for quiet, heads-down work coexist with hospitality-inspired zones for connection, exchange and collaboration. These interactive destinations are carefully placed along key circulation paths so that people naturally transition between focused work zones and communal areas. This design approach encourages movement, spontaneous interactions and shared experiences, enhancing both productivity and connectivity. 

Acoustic layering, intuitive adjacencies and a spatial hierarchy ensure that collaboration strengthens focus, rather than overwhelming it. Energy and concentration are interwoven, allowing employees to perform at their best. 

Flexibility is embedded throughout the design to support growth and evolution. Open areas were planned with adaptability in mind, allowing workstations to be added or modified with minimal disruption or cost. Integrated audiovisual systems enable hybrid collaboration and client engagement, while robust, adaptable power and data infrastructure equips teams to reshape environments as workflows and technologies change. 

Curated artwork and regionally inspired design elements create a sense of place that honors the bank’s heritage while symbolizing progress and innovation. These layers form a workplace that is not only highly functional but also representative of the bank’s values and aspirations. 

In addition to the workspace, the project included a retail bank branch on the building’s first floor. The design of the retail bank reimagines everyday banking through a hospitality lens. Extending the “Where the River Meets the Road” design language into a more public-facing setting, the space balances approachability and precision – offering customers a welcoming experience rooted in trust and care. 

The Design Impact

The transformation of Bank OZK’s workplace at 23Springs aligns the organization’s real estate strategy with its long-term growth, talent attraction and operational goals. By anchoring its workplace in a walkable, transit-accessible neighborhood filled with retail, dining and urban amenities, the bank has positioned itself as a competitive employer in the North Texas talent market while enhancing the employee experience. 

The consolidated multi-floor workplace optimizes space utilization and supports operational efficiency and peak performance. Investments in technology and infrastructure bolster the workplace’s long-term sustainability, extending its functional life.
